Our visiting Korean Students returned home  this week.

We have had thirteen students visiting from Korea this term. They have had a fantastic experience with many local sightseeing trips and experiences at school and with their home-stay families.  Thank you very much to the families who were hosts, the programme can not operate without your support. Thank you also to the staff who made the students welcome in their classrooms and to Mrs Tracy Goulden who organised the visit and took very good care of them.  We look forward to the next group joining us at the end of January.

Mrs Christine Gillard organised a Saturday afternoon of Lego. The House of Bricks set up in the school hall and with along with the PTA ran a fun afternoon that was a well supported fund raiser. Thank you to all involved.

The annual Cantamath competition was held last night. Our Year 7 and Year 8 teams in the problem solving competition can both be very proud of their achievements.  Many of the projects were recognised with commendations.  Thank you to all staff who put in the extra effort.  It was a great experience for the students.

The focus for the next few weeks is very much on the school show. Please be sure to be in early with your ticket order as they sell quickly.

Your child should be half way towards the number of points they are aiming for with their Casebrook Challenge work.  The next few weeks become busy so please make it a focus now.

The two unions who represent teachers and school support staff have called for a stop work meeting on Wednesday September 7. School will finish at 12:30pm on that day and we ask that you make alternative arrangements for your child.  We have a very small number of non-union members who will be available to supervise students in the Library.  If you require this for your child we must have a request form signed and returned to school prior to Wednesday 7.  Thank you very much for your support in this matter.  This is the first time the unions have worked together. They wish to make their members aware of proposed new funding systems for schools and the concerns they have around these. We will keep you informed.

I hope the term is going well for your family and whanau, we are very impressed with the standard of positive engagement we are experiencing at school.

Regards
