Room 13's Learning from Home

By Jacinta Clark | Posted: Sunday May 3, 2020

Students in Room 13 have been busy working on their learning tasks over the last few weeks!

Writing

Write That Essay is a resource we have been using for writing. Each day we complete a daily challenge and a module. We have a task that is set for us during that week and work on a bit each day. We have a focus to do with each task and stick to that when writing. For Week 1 we completed a compare and contrast paragraph each day about different topics. For Week 2 we wrote a story about Jax (Miss Clark’s dog). ~ Zoey Pratley

Reading

In our reading group we have been reading our novel, ‘Mare’s War’, and meeting on google meets twice a week. We have also been completing some SOLO tasks. At the start or finish of our reading, we do a boggle task online. It helps us to get our brains thinking.  ~ Jemma Creed

Our reading group has been reading a book called ‘Call of the Wild’. We had to read it on a website called Epic Reading that has lots of books. We have a meeting twice a week on google meets to check in on our book. We have been completing reading work on the chapters the past week. When we all finished the book, we did a Kahoot on the book. We also have to do boggle reading to see how we improve on it. ~ Will Brown

Inquiry

For Inquiry this Term, we have been looking at the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals are goals set by the UN to help our world recover from what we have done to it. We have completed some tasks relating to the goals. First, we all made infographics about a goal of our choice. There were 17 goals, so there were a lot to choose from. We also created a “Global Goals Passport”. This was a google doc with a table. In the table, there were four columns. The first column had the picture of the goal, and the second column asked us what the name of the goal was. In the third column, we had to write what we had learnt about the goal. Finally, in column four, we had to write a way that we can help meet that goal. ~ Alex Wallwork

Physical Education

This term for P.E we have had two different programmes to go through. The first, Planet Kaha, is a list of physical activities, from which we have to pick four to do each week. For example, one of the activities is to do 2000 steps and another is to see how far you can throw 3kg.

The second program is our PE Circuit. For the Circuit there are a number of different exercises to complete, such as, the plank, sit ups, burpees and several others. We attempt each exercise four times. For each attempt we record how well we did. The P.E we’ve been given is a great way to keep everyone active and involved during lockdown. ~ Aidan Sandys

Art

For art these last few weeks we have been doing a few different things! In week two this term we had to get an A4 piece of paper to work on. Then we had to watch a video and follow the steps. We had to draw little doodles with cute faces and expressions. In week 3 we could either draw an essential services worker, draw an important toy or we could make some origami cranes. I chose to draw a police woman. Now it is Week 4 and we can make some art for our mums for Mother’s Day. We hope everyone has a great Mother’s Day!    ~ Katana Goddard
