On Tuesday 8th of September, the rugby league team attended a tournament which was held at Nga Puna Wai rugby league fields.

They played 10 games in total. They played extremely well against Te Waka and Chisnallwood and always showed REP even though they didn’t get the results they wanted. They defeated the schools from Mairehau and St Annes. Mr Whitley and Penny were extremely proud of the boys and girls in the team. Here is a bit of feedback from the boys who attended the league tournament.

What was the highlight of the tournament?

Gafatasi: Being selected as Captain of the team for the day was quite nerve wracking at first but I knew I had to lead in front and lead by example.

Ari: It was really exciting because I got to miss out a day of school to play my favourite sport. The highlight of the tournament was getting more tackles in one game than all of my games at Hagley sports.

What placing did you get?

Gafatasi: We placed 5th overall out of 10 teams and I was extremely proud of how the boys and girls played and how they showed REP throughout the tournament.

What did you find fun and interesting?

Ari: It was fun facing different teams and seeing how they played, talking with the other teams and sharing an interest in league.

How long were the games?

Gafatasi: The games were not super long but long enough to get a good game in. They were 15 minutes a half.
