Westpac Rescue Helicopter Base Visit

Last term Room 6 had an awesome experience visiting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Base.

On the morning of Friday the 25th of June, Room 6 went on a trip to the Westpac Helicopter Base. We could never have gone without the help of the parents/caregivers who volunteered to drive us to the base. We were also accompanied by Mr Foster and Mr Russell. We went on the trip because Kyle Brookland (Lydia’s father) won an auction and invited us to come along.

As soon as we walked in the doors we watched a helicopter taking off through the window. It was very noisy and it took a couple of minutes. They very kindly gave us a demonstration of what a rescue would look like. They wrapped the patient up like a burrito and connected some straps to lift them up into the helicopter from an elastic hooked onto the helicopter. They gave out two small model helicopters as prizes they were awarded to Zack Williams and Frano Chaplin. They explained to us what the different roles do and why they are important and we also got to look through the amazing helicopters.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and enjoyed seeing what is involved in being part of the rescue helicopter team.
