Hagley Football Update

By Nick Leith | Posted: Wednesday August 11, 2021

This winter has not been kind to our Casebrook Football schedule! But thankfully, an afternoon at Hagley Park playing school football happened on Tuesday.

A big thanks to our football coach parents, Jason Gwynne and Ben Careford who have been on call every week in case the weather gods let us play - it has been a frustrating Tuesday season so far so it was great to get down to Hagley again on a warm winter's day.

The Casebrook Girls Football team had their second last game of the season, we lost 4-1 to the Heaton A team. Mayleen Gayheart Alavisi scored the only goal that we conceived, the manager of the game was Ava Hurcomb, the Captain of the game was Riley Coghlan and the player of the day was Bailey Groves. Overall everyone in the team did really well and tried their best to do their job to a high standard.

Casebrook were back at Hagley to play against Christchurch South. The pitches weren’t in great condition, which played a big role in the game. It started off a very tight game at the start but Christchurch South were very good and at half time we happened to be down 4-0. FC did start off well in the second half as William managed to score. But then towards the end of the game Christchurch South scored again making the final score a 5-1 loss to Casebrook FC. William with the only goal.

Casebrook United

Casebrook United had a 3-2 loss against Christchurch South. It was a close game; we were locked in a draw 1-1 at half time. The conditions weren't the best as it was a bit muddy. After conceding a goal early on in the second half, Chch South were losing but then we conceded a penalty. Austin divided the right but not quite far enough. Then Fox scored with 2 minutes to go. It was a close game but a disappointing loss for Casebrook United.

Casebrook Rovers

The Casebrook Rovers took a while to get moving against The Hillmorton Hotspurs- probably the big gap in games didn't help. After a bit of a slow start our team started to get the passes moving and were a bit unlucky in the end to lose the game - our opposition were pretty good though and deserved to win the game 4-2.

We were once again excited to be at the Hagley football pitch ready to play against Heaton. Both teams were ready and the staring whistle blew. Straight away it became a fast paced game with great positioning, however by the second half Heaton was beating us 2 - 0 by crossing it to the open player in the middle. We were a bit sad but we carried on playing in the second half. We were doing well in the first few minutes before, BOOM! Heaton had scored another goal. After that we put up a really good fight and even had some chances to score, but we gave Heaton another goal in the last 5 minutes. So from then on we played more defensively and before you knew it, the game had ended. We were a bit sad but we went back to school determined to win our last Hagley football match.
