Wainui Camp 2022!

We are almost at the end of our Wainui camps for 2022. Let's take a look back on the fun!

What is camp?

Camp is a year eight opportunity that Casebrook offers every year, class by class. Basically, a class will go to camp Wainui and camp in tents with classmates for four days and three nights before coming back to school. There is hot food at camp as well as toilets and showers, so you are set for days!

The campsite:

At the campsitethere are three levels, the field, the tents area and the main area. In the main area, there are two gazebos with tables underneath them, used for meals and card games. There are also toilets and a kitchen in the main area. In the tents area, about twenty tents are set up to accommodate everyone including the parents and teachers. Finally, there is the field where we can play spotlight at night, cricket, football and tackle rugby. Separating the field and tents is a creek that you can play in, bath in and wash your clothes in (if you are feeling like a real camper). Don’t worry though, there are bridges!

Activities:

Some activities that we do while at camp include coasteering, abseiling and kayaking, which the YMCA help us with. They provide the gear and teach us how to do the activities which is great fun! During coasteering, you climb on some rocks and jump into a geographical feature called the washing machine, which juggles you around heaps until it finally pushes you back to shore. At abseiling, you climb up a massive fifteen metre high tree that doesn’t have many branches. At the top there is a treehouse where they strap you up with ropes and set you up for abseiling down. The experience of going down is amazing and as long as you are not scared of heights, you will enjoy it very much! Finally, at kayaking, we kayaked around a bay and played games like world domination and stand up paddle-boarding on kayaks. We also got to see a historic building which was used to make and store ammunition during the war.

Food:

At camp, our class Room 5, had various meals that everyone enjoyed. Mrs Dick-McCann was very kind and made sure the food was catered for our allergies and food preferences. Some meals included burgers, nachos, wraps and American hot dogs. For breakfast, we got the privilege of choosing between toast, cereal, or a hot breakfast including spaghetti, baked beans and scrambled eggs. Some students even had left over dinner for breaky! My personal favourite was nachos as the meat tasted amazing (courtesy of Chef McKenzie in Room 5), the sour cream was good and the chips were nice and crunchy. Another highlight was that I even got a birthday cake made for me during our camp.

Conclusion:

Camp is amazing and I hope that everyone who has gone enjoyed it! Good luck to those who are yet to go!
