Tēnā Koutou Katoa. ~ Sports begin next week ~ Celebrating learning with our community ~ Standing up to bullying in Aotearoa/NZ.

We are well underway with Term 2 learning in classrooms and outside of school.

As the city is opening up more around Covid restrictions it has been great to see classes engaging in learning in the city, museum, with local environmental groups and the Redwood library. This learning outside of the class enriches programmes and gives our students further opportunities to connect with experts in and around our community.

We are due to share such learning with our community very soon at our Academic Term 1 learning celebration on Thursday 2nd June - this will enable our parents/caregivers and whānau to chance come in for the first time in a while! We look forward to having you on site to share in the learning our students have made around the Polynesian voyagers to Aotearoa and how our nation has been shaped by those that have arrived on our shores - we call this  Tūrangawaewae - the place where we stand. More info to come very soon.

Another exciting opportunity for our students with our school entering into the school sports programme from next week to compliment our Basketball and Water polo programmes that have already begun. We are really proud of the organisation our school brings to the sports field - great looking uniforms, well supervised sports teams and good coaching.

A big thanks to parents and caregivers who have sorted participation fees and to those who have donated football and rugby boots. We have been able to equip a number of students with the right gear to enable them a successful season. Another big thanks goes to Tom Straker, our sports coordinator, who has worked tirelessly over the past fortnight preparing our teams for success. Good luck to all our participants this year, they know what being a Casebrook REP in the sporting area should look like.

Tomorrow we show our support for Pink Shirt Day NZ - a show of support to those who stand up to bullying and those that experience it. Like every school and workplace, we need to continue to work hard in this area to ensure our students have a voice and feel safe. This week in classrooms, students are engaging in our PB4L REP programme around being an 'upstander to bullying' - the hardest thing we find is when it happens and no one communicates it. When we know about it, we can do something about it. This is a good time of year to ensure everyone knows our bullying policy which you can find attached here (scroll to page 3 & 4) or via our website policy section.

Finally, a teacher-only day is on the horizon for us at Casebrook. This is in the calendar for Friday 3rd June (Queen’s Birthday weekend) so hopefully gives families time for an extended break. Our staff will be engaging with other teachers from our local primary schools and Papanui High School. Please mark that in your calendars.

Wishing you all a warm weekend when it arrives, in what looks like a rough one ahead weather-wise.

Ngā mihi nui
