Final Casebrook Football Roundup for 2022

By Nick Leith | Posted: Wednesday August 10, 2022

Casebrook is the home of Intermediate School Football in the Northwest of Ōtautahi/Christchurch! We have five teams - four boys' teams & one girls' team. In each newsletter we will share how things have gone for our teams. A big shout out to our parent coaches, Ben Careford (Rovers) and Lou Fyfe (United) and our staff coaches Charlotte Rennie, Nick Leith and Mackenzie Goble.

We missed a couple of games due to record rain impacting the usual football 'carpets' that the Chch City Council puts on for us at Hagley Park. This is our final report for the season.

Casebrook Rovers

Report written by Jordy, Room 5

For our last official game of the season we played Christchurch South A. Earlier on in the season we lost 7-0 against them but this time we improved heaps and played some great football in not so great conditions; the final score was a 3-1 loss. Casebrooks goal scorer was Jordy Moore who dribbled past two players then slotted it past the keeper to even it up 1-1 in the first half. Casebrook were a bit slow in the second half and didn't make many chances whereas ChCh South scored two more. A big thanks to Ben Careford for taking us this season. We are really looking forward to the CAIMS Tournament in a couple of weeks.

Casebrook Athletico

Report written by Mr Leith

In our final game for the season, Athletico played a very cold looking Cobham side. The temperature was harsh and the conditions muddy but the boys dominated the game with some great passing and individual runs, even though it was a closer than expected 1-1 score at half time. Aidan, our goalie needs a mention for springing into action when required and getting the muddiest. Tristan scored a couple of good goals and MD and Ryan finished the game off. Quinn was the player of the day for his awesome energy across the pitch on a really cold day!

A great second half of the season once the grading was addressed so the boys can feel really proud of the way the held their head up on the end of a few thumpings, and the way they won with class in the second half of the season.

We played Cobham E. The field was slippery and muddy but we did our best and drew 2-2. Player of the day was Seth for making some outstanding saves as goalkeeper and some amazing passes from the back. We need to work on our passing while under pressure and how to keep our defensive line up but that can wait for next season!

Casebrook United

Report written by Tom, Room 1

It wasn't the nicest of conditions but it was still good to finally get a game in. We played Hillmorton and the final score was 3 : 2 and the goals were scored by Tom ( penalty ) corner kick ( own goal ) open play shot ( own goal ). We were good on defence and unlucky goalie mistakes that made it 3 : 2 but it was a fun season. The player of the day was Max Hurring for his amazing defence. A big thanks to Lou Fyfe for coaching our team and putting the effort in to get into the middle of Christchurch every Tuesday, dodging the busy traffic. We really appreciate it Lou!

Casebrook Rapinoes

Report written by Jazmin, Room 5

The Rapinoes had a bye to finish the season which was a bit stink after two weeks off. But we had a practice session at Hagley Park, preparing for the CAIMS Tournament in two weeks time.
