Karate Success for James!

Competing in his first-ever karate competition proved to be pretty awesome for James Deline

James from R12 Whatukura entered into his first karate competition over the holidays. Showing dedication and skill earned him a 3rd place medal.

We interviewed James to see what he had to say about the sport of Karate.

What club do you go to? Seiko Kai Karate Club

How long have you been doing karate? About a year

What does a training session look like for you? Exercise and fitness - go through sparring and fighting. Akata - patterns and movements.

How many competitions have you done? 1 - and I got 3rd place.

What advice would you give to someone starting karate? It starts to get really hard; you then get better at it. So don’t give up.

What do you enjoy about karate? It is lots of fun and you make new friends and see other people. I enjoy the patterns and movements.

What is your goal for karate? Getting a black belt.
