The Casebrook Canteen - By Asha and K'leigh

At Casebrook Intermediate there are lots of different responsibilities that you can take up, Asha and K’leigh from Room 12 help at the canteen during Morning Tea and Lunchtimes. They asked each other some questions about what they do…

How did you start working in the canteen?

Firstly I had to sign up at the start of the year. If you get asked to do canteen for a week you will be expected to work twice a day for a whole week. Overall there are usually six people working in the canteen every week.

Why did you want to work at the canteen?

We both love to take on leadership roles in the school and help out. It's good to work and socialise with others that you wouldn't normally hang out with and also another bonus is that if it's cold you can stay warm.

What are your roles in canteen?

When you are on canteen you have to arrive approximately five minutes before the bell rings to get make sure that everything is prepped and ready. We have to serve customers,  food, collect/hand out tokens, make apple slinky's and serve cold drinks. Sometimes we have to cut juicies and moosies.

Do you get paid?

Not really, but sometimes depending on how much hot food is left you may be able to pick one thing from the hot cabinet at lunch for free!

We recommend to anyone at Casebrook that working in the canteen is really rewarding and it is a good opportunity to hang out with others and learn some valuable skills.
