Kapa Haka at Casebrook

At Casebrook we have many groups and Kapa Haka is one of them. The Kapa Haka group go on stage on many occasions and perform all kinds of traditional items such as: Haka, Poi, Ti Ti Rakau, Moe Rakau and more.

We asked Francis Varga and Patrick Heywood, from Room 13, some questions about Kapa Haka.

Why do you like Kapa Haka?

Patrick: It is fun to learn the new language and the dances.

Francis: I like it because I’m doing something based on culture.

What do you enjoy about Kapa Haka?

Patrick: I enjoy the performing part.

Francis: I enjoy performing and learning new songs.

What skills do you need for Kapa Haka?

Patrick: You need to know how to listen carefully.

Francis: You need to have confidence.

Why did you sign up to Kapa Haka?

Patrick: Because my parents wanted me to join and I kind of wanted to as well.

Francis: I really wanted to learn more Kapa Haka so I joined.

Kapa Haka is an activity that both Patrick and Francis will continue for a while. The people that have joined have been enjoying it and will most likely continue it for years to come.
