Room 13 Camp

By Jacinta Clark | Posted: Tuesday February 25, 2020

On Monday the 10th of February Room 13 left to go to camp. Room 13 was the first class of 2020 to go on camp.

After an hour and a half of driving they arrived at Little River and stayed there for lunch. Once Room 13 arrived at Wainui they spent 1-2 hours setting up tents. Then they got into their togs and then went to the wharf. Room 13 had fun jumping off the wharf. When they got back some people had showers and some food and Raro was put on the table. A bit later and it was dinner time, everyone played while Group 3 prepared burgers and corn. After dinner Room 13 played spotlight. After spotlight it was lights out.

The next day everybody got up, had breakfast, did their activities and came back for lunch. Soon followed by another activity. Time flew until it was time for American style hot dogs. Then night 2 of spotlight.

Room 13 got up for their last full day at camp at 9am they all left for their 3rd and final activity. When they got back everybody got taken to the beach and wharf again. Only this time Room 13 had even more fun. By the time they got back it was a few hours until dinner so they had a late lunch. Room 13 played games to fill in time. When it was dinner everyone was hungry. After dinner Room 13 played their 3rd and final game of spotlight. Lights out.

On the last day everybody got packed up and went to a field where they played cricket with Room 2. After a long drive Room 13 got back at Casebrook to get picked up by their parents.

Camp Activities:

At Camp, we got the chance to do the following activities in groups...
Giant Swing, Kayaking and Coasteering as well as activities at our campsite.

Firstly, Kayaking. While kayaking we learned how to get on and off the kayak. In the water the instructors taught us how to raft up on the water and then we kayaked around to an old building from World War 2. The reason this building has not been knocked down is because it would release poisonous chemicals into the air. On land the groups also played games.

Next, the Giant Swing. When the groups arrived at the Giant Swing we sat down and the instructors explained the safety rules and how to put the helmet and harness on properly. After that we learned how to pull up the person on the swing. On the swing you had 2 go's. The first go we couldn’t go to the top but the second go you could go to the top. When we were on the swing and as high as you wanted to go you had to pull a pin out and you would fly through the air.

Lastly, Coasteering. While Coasteering we had to gear up into a full body wetsuit, helmet, life jackets and our own shorts to wear over top of the wetsuits. Then we had to drive down to where we would be Coasteering. When we got down to the stoney beach we got to climb around the rocks for awhile then we got to decide if we wanted to jump off the Baby Bear, Mama Bear or Papa Bear rock. Some groups didn’t get to jump off because of low tide and some groups learnt about the volcanic rock made from lava.

Camp Food:

At camp, we were privileged to have wonderful food, cooked by the amazing teachers and adults at our school.

On our first night at camp, we had delicious burgers cooked on the barbeque. We also had a big jug of Raro.

Every morning we had toast and cereal. We also had leftovers.

On the second day, we had delicious hot dogs and corn for lunch. Then for dinner, we had Nachos!

At around 9:00PM each night, we would have biscuits and milo. (Mystery Mixture).

On the third day, we had wraps for lunch, and then delicious lasagne and corn for dinner.

On the last day, we packed wraps and fruit into our lunch boxes and took them to the domain at the end of the road.

Once we were done eating, we headed home.

Thank you to Mrs Dick McCann for providing the food, and Mrs Mac for creating the delicious lasagne!.

All in all, we had a great time at Wainui Camp. We would highly recommend that you go there and try their activities.
