Casebrook Update - Thursday 3rd March

An update on COVID info from Casebrook Intermediate School.

Kia ora koutou,

As you will be aware on Monday we informed the community about a positive case in our school. Today we have had another confirmed case and we currently have a handful of people self-isolating at home due to a covid positive case in their family/whānau.

At this stage we are able to keep you regularly updated on case numbers but the advice we have been from the Ministry of Education (MOE) suggests this may not be as straightforward once the pandemic peaks in our school community.

Just a reminder that we are in ‘Phase three’ of NZ’s Covid ‘Red Setting’. This means:

  • Schools do not send students home (we never had to do this) as close contacts if a person in the school tests positive
  • Close contacts are only identified from being in the home
  • Positive cases currently need to isolate for 10 days
  • Household contacts currently need to isolate for 10 days and need to test on day 3 and day 10, or if symptomatic.
  • Parents/caregivers/whānau are asked to let the school know ASAP if their child is a positive case, or isolating at home due to a case in the household - please be clear about which situation applies to your child.
  • We have attached a graphic from the MOH that is easy to follow but you can always check the latest isolation info here: CLICK HERE

Learning from Home
Our teachers will email work home to students:

  • if a child is positive and is still able to learn from home
  • if a child is isolating as part of a household case

If your child requires a device to learn from home please let us know when you contact school about a positive or household isolation case.

The advice we are getting from the MOE and Ministry of Health is that students are able to continue learning in well ventilated, cleaned, and masked-up environments. This makes schools the best place to be for well children.

As always, please get in touch if there is anything you’re unsure of or need clarification on around Covid and isolation.
