Red, White & Brass...and Whatukura

"When Wellington Tongan superfan Maka fails to secure tickets to a hometown Rugby World Cup match between France and Tonga, he reaches for...the nearest trumpet. Maka rallies his mates into a last minute marching brass band to represent Tonga at the big game, and get into the stadium.

At the end of Term 1, Whatukura was lucky enough to secure tickets for their whole class to attend one of the first screenings of this NZ film based on a true story.

We were so excited to get to the movies. For a lot of us, we had never been to a movie theatre as flash and big as Ent X. The movie theatre was full of students from all different schools and we were lucky enough to get the best seats in the house.

After having a quick introduction about the movie from two of the stars the movie started. We laughed, we cried and we enjoyed every moment of the movie.

At the end of the screening, there was a Q and A session where we were allowed to ask some questions, either about the movie or the film star's personal stories or role in the film.

Ben challenged them to a 'chee-hoo' off, in true Pasifika style where, unfortunately, the adults outshone us this time. We are thankful to Miss Wilkinson for getting us the opportunity to go to the movies, during school time. Also to Miss B and Miss Mitchell for helping to supervise the trip.

Back at school, we spoke about how this was a great story of perseverance and how it connected to our school values. If you haven't seen the movie yet, Whatukura gives it 4/5 stars and suggests you go!
